Biophilic design.

By Glenside in Reading for clients across the UK.

Nature used to be all around us, so why should that change?

Being in nature can help us feel relaxed and calm, however studies have found that humans now spend as much as 93% of their time indoors.

Biophilic design has developed as a result of this - bringing the tranquillity of nature indoors due to the understanding that nature is both biologically and psychologically beneficial to us. By integrating natural elements into your office, you can maximise the sense of wellbeing, comfort, and calm.

Bring nature into your office.

Biophilic design is becoming increasingly popular amongst our clients. We have successfully integrated elements of nature into our clients' offices in a number of ways, including:

  • Adding planter units on top of storage to create calming natural areas.
  • Creating a living wall – covered in real plants or artificial plants as a striking, and energy-saving, addition to the office.
  • Including plants as dividers between different work areas, for a creative use of space.
  • Incorporating dried moss throughout the office for a low-maintenance natural touch – these can even be branded or shaped in the company logo.
  • Using artificial or dried plants throughout the space, capturing the benefits of biophilic design without the maintenance.

A room with a couch and a desk in it
November 6, 2024
In recent years, the design of office spaces has undergone a major transformation. Traditional cubicles have given way to open floor plans, encouraging collaboration and communication. But as open offices have become the norm, employees and employers alike have begun to recognize that this setup isn’t without its drawbacks. Striking the right balance between open and private spaces is essential for creating an office environment that fosters both productivity and well-being.

In today’s competitive business landscape, the design and functionality of your office space are more important than ever. Gone are the days when a simple desk and chair arrangement sufficed. Modern workplaces need to be more than just aesthetically pleasing—they need to be optimised for productivity, employee well-being, and overall efficiency. While the initial investment in a high-quality office fit-out may seem significant, the returns can far outweigh the costs. Here’s why it pays to design your workspace right: Boost Employee Productivity and Morale A well-designed office environment can significantly impact employee productivity and morale. Studies have shown that employees who work in well-lit, comfortable, and thoughtfully designed spaces are more likely to be engaged and productive. Features like ergonomic furniture, natural light, and designated collaboration areas can reduce fatigue, minimise distractions, and encourage creativity. Enhance Your Brand Image Whether you're a cutting-edge tech startup or an established law firm, the design of your workspace can influence how clients, partners, and potential employees perceive your business. A well thought out and executed office fit-out can communicate professionalism, innovation, and attention to detail. As well as this, office design can help express your company's character and values.
