Anyone who has enjoyed watching the fascinating “Earth from Space” programme on BBC 1 may also be aware that the UK is a world leading player in the space industry. Within this thriving sector, the Thames Valley is the centre of knowledge and achievement.

Harwell in Oxfordshire is home to the Harwell Space Cluster, described as “the gateway to the UK space sector with 89 Space organisations employing 950 people.”

Westcott Venture Park in Buckinghamshire is the base for over 70 successful businesses in space propulsion and satellite technology.
The UK Space Agency, with its headquarters in Swindon, Wiltshire, promotes UK space ambitions and is working with the industry to capture 10% of the global market for space by 2030.

Thames Valley UK recently reported that 3,400 new jobs had been created across the UK space industry, following the most detailed analysis yet undertaken which is described in the ‘Size & Health of the UK Space Industry 2018’ report. Commenting on the findings, Paul Britton, CEO of Thames Valley Chamber of Commerce, said that he was: “Delighted to learn of the positive news contained in this report. The space industry has long been a key strength of the Thames Valley region, and I look forward to seeing further growth in this sector.”

“Europe’s Strongest Knowledge Economy”

The space industry is just one of the sectors enjoying dynamic growth in the Thames Valley. The area is well known for its successful involvement in telecommunications, IT, scientific research, leading-edge technology and business enterprise.

The Thames Valley Science Park (TVSP) is one of several vibrant business and technology parks in and around Reading in Berkshire. Describing Reading’s benefits for business, including the influence of its internationally respected University, the TVSP team promotes the area as having “Europe's strongest knowledge economy with a digital cluster that ranks highest in employee productivity.”

Glenside has carried out commercial interior design projects throughout the Thames Valley region for clients across a variety of business, technological and scientific sectors. We are continually impressed by the innovative and strategic skills demonstrated by the organisations we have supported.

With the economic, technological and environmental challenges being faced worldwide, the Thames Valley’s remarkable expertise and resources position this dynamic region to play a major positive role; both now and in the future.
