In workplace design, what will 2019 bring?

 Wow, what a year 2018 has been, and how it has flown by! The summer months were something to savour, with the England football team bringing the nation together during endless sun filled blue skied days. Exports of goods and services from the UK had advanced to an all-time high by the beginning of Q3, and levels of unemployment have fallen significantly throughout the year.

As the year comes to an end, it is now time to think ahead of what is to come in 2019. It is safe to say no one is sure what is going to happen. In the world of business, it will be fascinating to discover what new opportunities this will bring.

Talking of opportunities, we are very excited about the prospects for 2019. We have some big plans lined up and look forward to keeping you all updated every step of the way.

In the wider world of office design, technology is constantly evolving. It may be time to get on board with the latest trends if you aren't already doing so. These include the wellbeing of employees in the workplace and the concept of agile working.

If you are aware of these trends but feel cautious about adopting change right now, our advice is that: "You can't always wait for the perfect time. Sometimes you must dare to jump."

Glenside is looking forward to adding to its successful portfolio of projects in 2019. 2018 has been a busy year with many projects completed, including creating an exceptional office working environment in a characterful converted barn in rural Berkshire, and an office relocation in London.

An ongoing trend which we expect to continue to be a focal point in 2019 is that of employee wellbeing in the workplace. As the drive to make Britain healthier continues, new opportunities to make the working environment align with this can be explored. From revolutionary furnishings such as electric sit stand desks, to the use of exercise balls in breakout areas, there are many ways to combat the issue of poor health in the workplace.

The concept of agile working is still very much on trend and will continue to be at the forefront of people's minds in the New Year. Breakout and collaboration areas are a key component in creating a fluid working ethos. With open office spaces, it can be hard to find a quiet spot where you can think through creative ideas alone, or work with a team during an informal gathering or meeting. Specialist areas for this to happen provide an excellent private space for a great place to work without being interrupted.

So that's what we expect to be at the forefront of office design over the next year, and anticipating design trends now means we are already in a strong position to meet the requirements of our clients in 2019 and beyond.
