Designing a business community

Commercial interior design involves creating a workplace environment that focuses on both driving business performance and supporting the wellbeing and happiness of those that work there. In fact, these two objectives are inseparable.
Glenside is also well aware that the location of a business has an impact on people at work in terms of convenience, facilities and ambience. If businesspeople can also feel that they are valued members of the community they work in, so much the better.
When a business park is created, there is the opportunity of designing a genuine business community. We have carried out office fit out and refurbishment projects
in a number of these designated areas for industry, commerce and science and some fulfil this goal better than others.
A thriving environment
A great example of one that really ticks all the boxes of a genuine business community, is Milton Park in Oxfordshire. Covering a 250 acre well-landscaped site, this Business and Science Park is home to a range of dynamic and varied enterprises employing over 9,000 people in total.
The range of amenities is impressive, not only those for doing business, such as meeting rooms to rent and a conference centre, but also for places to eat and shop. There is a swimming pool, a fitness centre, a nursery in which to leave your children in safe hands and much else.
But Milton Park takes a big leap further towards creating a genuine business community. It has a year-round calendar of events that help people on site to mingle, network and have fun.
A pleasurable commute
Among the forthcoming events at Milton Park are Bike 2 Work days, taking place in August, September and October, with a prize of a free breakfast at the Café Metro on reaching your destination. This is an imaginative idea that could encourage people to realise that cycling to work could be a healthy and pleasurable way to commute, as well as benefiting the environment.
